The Pre-K curriculum is based on the standards given to all Catholic schools by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. The curriculum includes Religion, Literacy, Math, Social Studies, and Science. All of these subjects are centered on the most important goal of Pre-K: learning how to socialize appropriately with others.
These sensational 4 and 5 year olds are learning and practicing our Religion in order to better understand their relationship with God and each other. In Literacy, they learn to identify upper and lower case letters, their sounds, and even some sight words. In Math, they learn to identify numbers and are introduced to basic sorting, graphing, addition and subtraction skills. In Social Studies students learn about their role in their family and school community, and in Science they learn about the world around them through fun, guided activities.
Students learn through teacher guided lessons, and peer interactions and collaboration. They are given instruction in whole group, small group and individually. Activities are created not only to meet Pre-K Catholic School and State Standards, but to foster compassion and independence in these 4 and 5 year olds with whom I am blessed to be able to work.
