Dear Families & Friends of Fatima,
I hope you are having a relaxing, long weekend with your loved ones.
Labor Day defines the unofficial end of summer, but in years past, it also used to signal the beginning of the academic year. But here we are already in week four, and what a beginning we have had! We got to witness a rare astronomic event with an eclipse of the sun. Students will talk about that for years to come. Their safety glasses will become collectibles!
In the next couple weeks, students in grades 2-8 will take the first of three annual Star Math and Star Reading assessments on our computers. The program, Renaissance 360 is used by all of our Catholic Schools and has replaced the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). We have been very happy with the data that we get and especially so because we get results almost immediately instead of having to wait months.
I want to thank those of you have already done morning traffic duty, and those of you who are scheduled for the coming months. You will always be paired with a staff member. Besides providing the opportunity to fulfill your service hours, it’s important for the safety and well being of our students. With that in mind, when driving, please be extra patient and courteous to the person on duty, and to one another. Please don’t cut through the cones and when walking your children or dropping them off, make sure they use the crosswalks at either end.
Thank you for the opportunity of working with your children, and God bless you all.
Reminders from our P.S.O.
“Baseball with the Archbishop” raffle, a 5K event, and the Archbishop’s Annual School Dinner. Please check the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Catholic Schools website for details. http://www.asfcatholicschools.org/ We have raffle tickets available here in our office for “Baseball with the Archbishop”.
Speaking of raffles, have you noticed a red wagon in the school lobby? It’s our “Party Wagon” which will be raffled off at the Archbishop’s Dinner, Sept. 22nd. Our job is to fill it with games, toys, movie tickets, popcorn, gift certificates, etc. Any contributions to our party wagon are welcome!
Jeff Turcotte from St. Pius X H.S. came to Fatima on Thursday at 2:45pm in the gym. He is visiting all the Catholic schools to encourage participation in a 5K Run/Walk to be held on Sunday, Sept. 24th at Pius. The proceeds will benefit all our schools.
Lastly, a note from Mai and Emily Nguyen who continue to coordinate our boxtop collections…and we thank them for all their work! Below is the information from the attachment that Mrs. Dehaas sent earlier this week.
ARE YOU A BOXTOPS HERO? DEAR OLF FAMILIES, It’s time again to clip those boxtops! This year we will have a school wide goal instead of individual class competition. The bulletin board across the school office will have a goal meter. As students turn in their boxtops, we will color in the meter. Our goal this year is 8,000 boxtops. If we reach our goal by the end of the school year, Mrs. DeHaas will have a special treat for our students. In addition to the school wide goal, there will also be a boxtop hero of the month. The student that turns in the most boxtops for the month will have their name featured on the bulletin board and be eligible to enter in a drawing for a prize at the end of the school year! There is still time for the August boxtop hero of the month. Please clip those boxtops, and place them in a plastic baggie. Please label the baggie with the number # of boxtops included, student’s name and grade. Thank you for supporting this simple fundraiser, every little clip counts! Go Falcons!\
