Kudos are due this week in particular to a few of our staff members.
Congratulations to Ms. Patti Wilson and our students for another outstanding music program last Thursday night! As someone exclaimed to me during one of the acts, “How does she manage to get so much out of all those kids!?” The answer is the same as the old joke about the tourist who asks the NY cabby, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” Answer: “practice, practice, practice!” (talent also helps a lot!) We saw plenty of that as well.
Thanks to Mrs. Emily Hiller for organizing the field trip to Wildlife West Friday. While it was a little windy and cool at times, the weather was mostly cooperative, and the students were dressed for it. Thanks to all the parents who met us out there. It was a wonderful outing, and I heard nothing but positive comments from students and adults alike. Even the high school and college age guides who work at Wildlife West told me as I was leaving that our students were “really smart” and very nice. I had to agree.
Mr. Daniel Castillo reports that our 2016-17 yearbooks are in and that all prepaid and personalized books will be distributed tomorrow afternoon. The rest will go on sale for $35 after school until 3:30 outside one of his classroom windows, and each morning at 7:30 until they are gone. If you are paying in cash, please bring exact change.
I would like to put in my plug here and thank Mr. Castillo for the excellent job that he and his students have done. It is a beautiful yearbook.
Tomorrow we will have a low-key assembly after morning announcements in the gym. Students will receive certificates for academic honor roll, specific subjects, perfect attendance, being a model of one of our Schoolwide Learning Expectations, and for participation in sports.
Wednesday at 6:00 pm is our 8th grade promotion Mass and reception afterwards. I would like to encourage our 7th graders to participate.
Of course, our last day of school is Friday, dismissal is at noon. There will be no aftercare.
Take care, and thank you for the privilege of working with your children every day.
