Dear Families & Friends of Fatima,
What an eventful week we have had at OLoF! We were blessed to have Archbishop John Wester concelebrate Mass on Thursday with Fr. Steve and we were treated to the Archbishop’s company for the next three hours. He and Superintendent Susan Murphy visited with the principal (moi!), several teachers and classrooms, our entire elementary group in the cafeteria, some parents and then Fr. Steve again. Archbishop Wester who taught high school for several years in San Francisco is very interested in preserving Catholic education. He is visiting all the Catholic schools in the archdiocese, and while we are not the biggest, I know that we impressed him with our Catholic spirit and hospitality. It was an honor to have him visit with us and it made me very proud to get to showcase our fine staff and school.
One other big event this week is that we completed our nearly eighty page self study and sent it off to our accreditation team chairperson, Sally Todd, her team members, and Superintendent Murphy. Ms. Todd is the Associate Superintendent of Orange County, California Catholic Schools. She has been evaluating and accrediting Catholic schools based on the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA) standards for many years. She will lead up a team which will include six local Catholic educators who will spend three and a half days during the last week of March visiting our classrooms and evaluating our data. We are, frankly, relieved to have our report completed, but also optimistic. Our staff has collaborated many hours, writing, editing and rewriting the final report. We look forward to having an outside group of educators objectively review our work and visit our facility.
Congratulations to Mr. Dillard and his Math Counts team which competed 2 weeks ago. He just found out this week that they have qualified for the State level. We are the only Catholic school to reach the next level for this year so we are truly blessed! Good luck in the next round on March 18th.
REMINDER: Next Saturday, March 4th we will be having registration for school year 2017-18 from 9a.m. till noon.
